Types of Charge Controllers

Charge controllers are devices that regulate the charge and discharge of batteries. Rated by their maximum AC current output. There are two types of charge controllers :

PWM (Pulse Width-Modulated):

  • Ideal for use with sealed batteries
  • Can only be used within a limited range of panel configurations and voltages

MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking):

  • Harvest energy more efficiently
  • Can be used with a wider range of array configurations and voltages
  • Better when dealing with harsher climates
  • Digital display is provided to monitor power use, battery charge and system performance data
